Dear Patient,
If could use only one acupuncture point on every patient for the rest of my life, I would probably choose Liver 3.
Liver 3 treats many of the most common complaints we acupuncturists see: headaches, menstrual problems, stress and depression, circulatory issues like cold extremities and varicose veins, pain—its benefits are far-reaching.
But there’s so much more to Liver 3. The Liver system directs our body’s natural cycles and governs the free flow of qi and blood. Each point on the Liver channel aids these actions to some degree, but Liver 3 is the strongest. It’s what we call a Source point, meaning it regulates the function of the organs and treats the root causes of disease. So Liver 3 doesn’t just relieve symptoms, it helps the body correct imbalances at the deepest level, at the source.
The Chinese name for Liver 3, Tai Chong, means Great Surge. Imagine a steam-release valve on a pressure cooker, or floodgates on a dam—this is how Liver 3 functions, allowing pent-up energy to rush forth and flow freely.
Modern life is characterized by stagnation: sitting at desks, sitting in cars, sitting on couches. Even when it feels like we’re on the go, we tend to move without intention, detached from our own bodies, creating more stagnation. Simply getting the qi to flow can profoundly impact on our wellbeing. Sometimes all we need is a Great Surge.
Love and Gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
P.S. Each Wednesday I write about a different acupuncture point. Are there any you’re curious about? Let me know!
Alexa, please tell where Liver 3 is located! Thank you!
I definitely need Liver 3!! 🙏❤
