Feet
Dear Patient,
When I’m in bed at night, I’ll rub my feet together, like a hands-free foot massage.
I’ve done this for as long as I can remember. It probably started as a self-soothing technique when I was a child and had a set bedtime but wasn’t always tired. It helped calm my racing brain.
Later I learned that there are over thirty acupuncture points on each foot. They all have different functions, but in general, points on the feet have a descending action, helping to draw down excess energy from the head. The action of rubbing my feet together acts like a mild sedative, stimulating all those points and encouraging my thoughts to settle down.
Many of our little tics and quirks and affectations are in fact guided by the innate wisdom of our body. Paying attention to them can clue us in as to what our body might be asking of us.
I still rub my feet together at night, now knowing that it helps anchor my energy for a good night’s sleep. It still works every time.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
