thank-you. I have noticed an uptick of people coming in and asking for berberine at the health-food shop i work part time in and wondered which "dr phil" had recommended it as this is a common thing we have seen, from Oprah etc to now tictoc. And honestly it was pretty disheartening for folks to be hoping to get the miraculous weight loss that is achievable from ozempic and the like. Personally I am recommending fasting if folks want to find a cheaper more "natural" version as that is essentially what is happening.

I adore the golden thread of berberine that I see in the Oregon grape rhizomes that i harvest here in the PNW for all the reasons you have mentioned, as well as the deep earthy pithy dry scent and the wonderful complex flavour of bitters. What a power house of a plant and especially for wood cf's. also one of the essential first aid herbs for its ability to address abscesses and travelers belly woes. My favourite use of Oregon grape so far has been a mead I made from the berries. What a gift these plants are and the medicine they offer.

Oh, I love learning about herbs that are new to me - Oregon grape sounds like a true gift from Mother Earth. Thank you for sharing!

As Dr. Cai, my herb teacher at Midwest College, used to say, "No matter how bitter your life has been, it is not as bitter as Huang Lian."
