Dear Patient,
Deadlines. So often they’re arbitrary and self-imposed, yet we drive ourselves to illness and exhaustion in our quest to meet them.
This week I’ve taken time off from work to attend a week-long dance intensive at my local studio. And I’ve had friends in town on two separate occasions within the last week. All of it has thrown me off my normal routine, and it’s been a crowded week, but crowded in a good way—with fun, and joy, and love.
And that’s why I’m sending out two Notes this week instead of the usual three. I could have found the time for it, staying up late or getting up early or carving out an hour or so elsewhere. I could have adhered to my self-imposed deadline, but I didn’t. I decided to relax and laugh with my visiting friends, and spend my days having fun in dance class and crashing on the couch afterwards.
Tasks and chores and all those items begging to be crossed off a to-do list will always be there. But time with friends is precious. Time spent doing something just for the sake of fun and pure enjoyment—that’s precious. Deadlines are not precious. And it’s okay to ignore them every now and then.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
So true - glad you gave yourself permission to have fun. Deadlines will always be there. Our friends and family won't.
Absolutely!
