Dear Patient,
Sometimes a person will ask if acupuncture can get rid of their wrinkles.
Early in my career I did some training in acupuncture facial rejuvenation. I practiced these techniques on a lot of patients, and what I found was that after a treatment, every patient felt more relaxed, some looked more rested, and no one ever looked ten years younger.
The face is the storehouse of our emotions. The eyes blink back tears. Pursed lips restrain us from saying words we might regret. Those lines and creases are the product of decades of sorrow, joy, rage, and everything else that comes with being human. Your wrinkles tell the story of your life.
You can thank your face for all of its hard work with a few minutes of facial massage. Wash your hands, then just press around on your face. Find some tender spots, rub in circles, move your facial muscles. Now see how you feel. Better?
A facial massage increases circulation so it may brighten up your skin too. But don’t erase all those hard-earned wrinkles, dear patient. They are proof that you’ve engaged with life. They are uniquely yours. And they’re an essential part of the beauty of you.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
