Dear Patient,
I’m Alexa and I’m the Acupuncturist writing these Notes from Your Acupuncturist.
I became an acupuncturist to connect with my fellow humans and bring more love and healing into the world.
I’ve been practicing acupuncture since 2005 and for most of those years I’ve worked in a community setting, which is a fast-paced environment that allows me treat lots of patients and charge an affordable price. I love practicing this way, but there’s not much time for conversation.
These notes are my imagined conversations with patients. Some are extensions of real exchanges, and others are thoughts that go through my head as I place the needles or after I step away—conversations I picture happening over a shared pot of tea.
I think of these notes as paper airplanes; some may land close to you and others may sail past. Once a note reaches you, it belongs to you—you can crumple it up and toss it out, flatten it out and read it again, or fold it back up and aim it toward a new destination. It’s yours to do with as you wish.
Patients often remark that they feel some needles more than others. “The more it hurts, the more you need it,” one of my teachers would say. These notes work in the same way—if one resonates with you, it’s because it’s struck some part of you that could use a little attention.
My hope is that these notes can be a slow breath, a step back, a tuning out of the noise to help you see yourself as I do, dear patient—as an imperfect, miraculous being.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
