That Point at the Top of Your Head
Dear Patient,
People will ask if I have a favorite point.
It’s Du20 by a long shot. It’s that point at the very top of your head, usually the first point I'll needle in a treatment.
The Chinese name for Du20 is Bai Hui, which means “one hundred meetings.” Imagine one hundred pathways all leading up a mountain and meeting at the summit. If rain falls at the summit, water runs down the pathways. So it is with Du20. We can affect change throughout the body just with this one point.
Du20 offers a good opportunity to try acupressure on yourself. Just press around on the top of your head, and you’ll eventually find a spot that feels like it’s right at the apex: not too far forward or back, not to the left or right. Bullseye.
Spend some time with this point; make friends with it. As you press, send a message to your body: relax; it’s going to be okay; I love you. Feel how this message, delivered to the point of one hundred meetings, gets relayed to the other parts of you, further down the mountain.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
