Reminders
Dear Patient,
Recently a patient was telling me about something she started noticing during work zoom meetings: tingling across her anterior hairline.
There are quite a few acupuncture points crowded into these few inches where your forehead meets your hairline (or for folks who don’t have a hairline, where the skin changes texture). We'll needle an odd-numbered combination of them when a person feels out of sorts emotionally—we call them 3 Emotions, or 5 Emotions, or 7 Emotions.
This particular patient was well-acquainted with these points. She’d often request them because they helped her feel more calm and centered. And eventually, there she sat in stressful work meetings, feeling the tingling aliveness of the points, whispering messages to her: You can do this. Just breathe. It’s going to be okay. Everything you need lies within you.
Acupuncture needles send a message to the body. In time, those messages infuse every cell and tissue and interstitial space, until the messages are encoded into your very existence, whispering reminders when you need them. This is healing.
Messages come to us in many ways: acupuncture needles, a cleansing rain, a favorite song on the radio, a hug from a friend. The body’s response the them can enact profound change. But we must open our awareness to the reminders around us. Can you feel them?
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
