Pillars
Dear Patient,
At the start of the pandemic, I closed my acupuncture clinic for two months and then reopened under strict new protocols. As I grappled with questions around how to provide healthcare and still keep everyone safe, I came across an article by Dr. Atul Gawande, outlining a roadmap for safely reopening, based on five pillars.
He says this about the measures in place at his hospital, Mass General Brigham:
These lessons point toward an approach that we might think of as a combination therapy—like a drug cocktail. Its elements are all familiar: hygiene measures, screening, distancing, and masks. Each has flaws. Skip one, and the treatment won’t work. But, when taken together, and taken seriously, they shut down the virus.
This is the advantage of multifaceted approach to preventing viral transmission, or anything really. When there’s a crack in one pillar, the structure still holds.
What are the pillars of self-care in your life? Do you have just one or two? If so, consider adding a few more. That way, if a crack appears in one pillar, the others do the work of holding you up.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
