Like Work
“Sometimes acupuncture feels like work.”
A patient said this to me recently after a treatment. As she rested, a lot of pent-up emotions were released, the needles unlocking a gate that had been holding them back. She felt a little nauseous.
Most of the time acupuncture is relaxing—you just lie there with tiny needles in you. But yes, sometimes it does feel like work.
It can be a bit like a vacation in this way. Sometimes a vacation is restful, sometimes it’s exhausting, and occasionally it’s life-changing.
In fact, any period of time you set aside for yourself can function in the same way. When you step away from tasks and screens and the hustle of everyday life, and it’s just you—sometimes it’s blissful, and sometimes it feels like work. But it’s work that pays off. It’s vital work. Sometimes it’s life-saving work.
And it won’t always feel like work.
Love and gratitude,
