Dear Patient,
People sometimes ask me what they should do before acupuncture to prepare their body and get the most out of the treatment.
First, let’s get the practical stuff out of the way. Wear loose, comfortable clothing so your acupuncturist can get to the points they need. Eat a little something beforehand - acupuncture on an empty stomach could make you a light-headed. Silence your phone. If you’d like to listen to something while you’re resting, queue up some relaxing music or guided meditation, and while you’re at it go ahead and untangle your knotted-up wired earphones. Roll up your sleeves and pant legs. Get comfortable.
And now the good stuff…
Take some deep breaths
Settle in to your body
Note where your muscles are tense and send them a gentle suggestion to relax
Take some more deep breaths
Give your body permission to receive the touch of another person
Accept this time as a gift to yourself
Allow your monkey mind to monkey around and do its monkey thing
Take some more deep breaths
Honor this moment in your life’s journey
Trust that this is exactly where you need to be
Thank your past self for doing all the work to get you here
Take some more deep breaths
Your treatment has already begun, even before the first needle goes in.
Feel the qi of the universe swirling around you, abundant, infinite, coursing through you, carrying your breath to all of creation.
Your body is ready, as it always has been.
The needle goes in, and you are home.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
“ Feel the qi of the universe swirling around you, abundant, infinite, coursing through you, carrying your breath to all of creation.” Thankyou, and yes to this! And as I say as a blessing and may you always find your own way home” home into our body’s. The miracle that is life!
