Dear Patient,
Next time you have the hiccups, try this.
You'll be touching your face so first clean your hands. Find the acupuncture point Urinary Bladder 2, located above the eye, at the inner end of the eyebrow. There’s a slight indentation there in the orbital bone.
Now press. I like to rest my elbows on a table, place my thumbs at UB2 on each side, then lean my head forward so the weight of my head creates the pressure. If the points feel a little sore, you’re in the right spot.
Now breathe. Slow, steady breaths. Keep pressing for a minute or so after your hiccups stop. If you stop pressing too soon, your hiccups will come back. But no worries, just press again until they go away.
Voila! No more hiccups. Kinda makes you want to get the hiccups and try it out, right?
The Chinese name for this point is Cuan Zhu, which means Bamboo Gathering. This point also benefits the eyes and is great for clearing sinus pressure.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
P.S. Starting this week, every Wednesday my note will be about a specific acupuncture point. Are there any points you're curious about? Let me know!
I would love to learn about points to help with migraines, anxiety, and menstrual cramps. :)
