Dear Patient,
Today is the start of Lunar New Year, a holiday observed throughout Asia as a time to feast, celebrate family, and honor deities and ancestors. The new moon ushers in the Year of the Tiger.
It’s a day when I am reminded that this medicine I practice is a gift from another culture, brought to faraway shores and shared generously. This medicine passes through me, but it does not belong to me.
It’s a day of gratitude for my Asian teachers, and the generations of healers and educators who came before them. To those who carried this medicine with you—thank you. Thank you for showing us the ways of harnessing and directing the flow of qi. Thank you for teaching us the healing properties of herbs, and food, and everything the earth offers. Thank you for a practice that is centered in presence and intention. Thank you for showing us the power of one tiny needle.
Thank you for sharing your medicine with us, and with the rest of the world.
Happy Year of the Tiger.
Love and Gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
