Habits
Dear Patient,
Sometimes a person will come in for acupuncture after a long hiatus; they were getting regular treatments for a while but stopped for some reason, then realizing they weren’t feeling all that great, decided to come back in.
Often they’ll say something like, “I didn’t mean to stop coming in; I just got out of the habit.”
We humans do this all the time, even your acupuncturist. Practices like exercising and writing have repeatedly proven their worth to my wellbeing, yet they take effort. Inertia wins the battle over exertion. Or I yield my time and attention to other, louder demands. I get out of the habit.
The good news is there’s no cosmic scorecard. So you went six months without acupuncture, or six weeks without exercising, or ate an entire sleeve of Thin Mints in one sitting. It’s okay. No one is keeping track of this but you. Habits can help you reach your goals but they don’t have to define you. Today is a new day. Start a new habit, break it, then start again.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
