Doors
Dear Patient,
I’ve been reading the excellent book The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow, about a girl who discovers the power to unlock doors to other worlds. Another recent favorite was Exit West by Mohsin Hamid, in which doors transport war refugees to safer ground. And one of my childhood favorites was The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, about the orphan Mary who finds a key that unlocks a mysterious walled garden at her uncle’s estate.
What is it about doors?
Doors are change, adventure, knowledge. Doors are an invitation to yes where once stood a firm no. Doors are new beginnings. Doors are possibilities.
I like to think of acupuncture points as doors. When we unlock these point/doors, energy that’s pent up on one side suddenly flows through. Pressure is released. The impossible becomes possible. Transformation.
The thing about a door is, when it’s closed, it’s just part of the wall. It blocks and barricades. For a door to become change, it requires a co-conspirator: someone to turn the knob, open, and step through. That’s where you come in.
Are there barriers in your life? Maybe somewhere in those walls, there’s a door waiting for you.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
