Courage
Dear Patient,
This week, standing tall at 4’8”, Simone Biles showed the world what courage looks like.
When the Olympian dropped out of competition, citing mental health reasons, she stood up for herself in a way that no athlete of her caliber, on the world stage, had ever done before. And she signaled to the rest of us that it’s okay to prioritize our own mental health. It matters more than setting world records or winning gold medals.
Her legacy as the greatest gymnast of all time was never in question. And now, she’ll also forever be remembered as a fearless champion for mental health.
Few of us will ever execute the dazzling, gravity-defying moves she demonstrated as a gymnast. But we can all follow her lead and be courageous guardians of our own mental health.
It’s okay if you’ve had enough. It’s okay if you need help. Be like Simone Biles. Be a hero for yourself.
Love and gratitude,
Your Acupuncturist
P.S. If you need mental health care, help is available. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a good place to start.
